Interest Policy

Conflict of Interest Policy

Riverina Raptors FC is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and transparency in all of its activities. This policy sets out how the club identifies and manages conflicts of interest to ensure decisions are made in the best interests of the club and its members.

What Is a Conflict of Interest?

A conflict of interest arises when a person's personal, financial, or professional interests could improperly influence — or appear to influence — their judgement or decision-making in their role within the club. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Financial interests in a supplier or contractor being considered by the club.
  • Personal relationships with candidates being considered for positions or contracts.
  • Involvement in a competing club or organisation while holding a role at Riverina Raptors FC.
  • Receiving gifts, benefits, or hospitality that could influence decision-making.

Obligations

All committee members, staff, and volunteers must:

  • Declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest as soon as it becomes apparent.
  • Absent themselves from discussions and decisions where a conflict exists.
  • Not use their position to gain an unfair personal advantage.
  • Avoid accepting gifts or benefits that could create an obligation or appearance of bias.

Declaration Process

Conflicts of interest must be declared to the Club President or Secretary. Declarations will be recorded in the club's Register of Interests and reviewed at each committee meeting. Where a conflict is identified during a meeting, the affected member must leave the room for the duration of the relevant discussion and vote.

Gifts and Hospitality

Gifts or hospitality of nominal value (under $50) may be accepted without declaration. Any gift or hospitality above this threshold must be declared and recorded. Cash gifts must never be accepted.

Breaches

Failure to declare a conflict of interest may result in disciplinary action up to and including removal from the committee or position.
