Child Protection
Child Protection Policy
Riverina Raptors FC is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all children and young people involved in our club. We recognise that children have the right to be safe and to participate in sport free from harm, abuse, and exploitation.
Purpose
This policy outlines the club's commitment and obligations to protect children from harm and to create a safe environment for all participants under the age of 18.
Working With Children
- All coaches, volunteers, and staff who work with children must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) as required under NSW law.
- No individual who has been convicted of a child-related offence will be permitted to hold any position within the club.
- Adults should not be alone with a child in an unsupervised setting.
- Physical contact with children should only occur when necessary (e.g., first aid) and should always be appropriate, transparent, and consented to.
Recognising and Reporting Abuse
All club members are encouraged to be alert to signs of abuse or neglect, including unexplained physical injuries, significant changes in behaviour, or a child's disclosure of harm. Any concerns must be reported immediately to the Club's Child Protection Officer or, in cases of immediate risk, directly to NSW Police or the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
Code of Conduct for Adults Working with Children
- Treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Never use language that is inappropriate, demeaning, or sexually suggestive.
- Do not make physical contact with a child that could be considered inappropriate.
- Do not share personal contact details with children or communicate with them via private social media channels.
- Report any suspicions or disclosures of abuse immediately.
